Prostate Enlargement (BPH) Overview

Prostate enlargement or BPH (benign prostate enlargement) is a condition that is most common among men over 50. Symptoms of prostate enlargement include a burning sensation when urinating, backed up ejaculation and sometimes fever and fatigue.

The problem

Statistically as men get older, their prostate keeps growing. In today's world, virtually all men are prone to suffer from prostate enlargement. Prostate cancer is one of the deadliest and prevalent cancers among men. One major contributor to prostate enlargement is the female hormone estrogen. An excess of estrogen in the male body has been correlated with prostate enlargement and potentially cancer.

The two major contributing factors for increased levels of
estrogen in the male body are:

  • Aging
  • Estrogenic chemicals (estrogen mimickers) in the environment, food and water

Conventional treatments incorporate drugs and some herbs that target BPH symptoms but utterly fail to address the core of the problem. Typical side effects include impaired liver function and a loss of virility. Over time the collateral damage to the body due to the use of drugs increases and more drugs are therefore added to address additional problems - and the collateral damage keeps increasing requiring even more drugs, and so on and so forth. Simply said, a man who suffers from BPH today has no viable choices.

The solution

The solution for prostate enlargement requires the means to address the core of the problem, reverse the existing disorder, lower estrogen and thus regain a healthy hormonal balance and the right metabolic environment within the body to promote final alleviation of existing BPH symptoms.

This is where Defense Nutrition's Prostate Relief Kit comes into play. The Prostate Relief Kit was created to address address the real causes of prostate enlargement and provide natural relief without the typical side effects. Most importantly, Defense Nutrition's Prostate Relief Kit isn't just effective in treating existing BPH symptoms, but also in preventing them from ever coming back. The basic Prostate Relief Kit provides a proprietary blend of herbs, essential nutrients and other bioactive factors that were used traditionally to nourish and cleanse the body, balance estrogen and promote prostate healing. Also included is a free prostate relief guide providing a detailed nutritional plan to effectively support prostate health and regain a vigorous, strong and healthy body for life.

More about the issue of Prostate Enlargement

The prostate gland plays an important role in the "sexual machinery" of men, providing regenerative fluids necessary for proper ejaculation. The prostate surrounds the urethra, a tube that carries urine from the bladder.

The most common problem for men under 50 is the inflammation of the prostate - a condition called prostatitis. When the prostate is inflamed or swollen, it presses the urethra and thus prevents a normal urine flow. This is also true for BPH benign prostate hyperplasia), a condition that is common among men over 50. Symptoms of prostate enlargement include burning sensation when urinating, a frequent need for urination, backed up ejaculation and even fever or fatigue.

Some forms of prostatitis are caused by bacterial infection. Nonetheless, often no bacteria is found and therefore treatment with antibiotics isn't helpful. Statistically, as men get older, their prostate keeps growing. In today's world, virtually all men are prone to suffer from prostate enlargement. Furthermore, prostate cancer is one of the deadliest and prevalent cancers among men.

The alleged cause

The current consensus in the mainstream medical community is that the main cause for prostate enlargement is a certain derivative of testosterone called DHT (dehydro testosterone). Called "bad testosterone", DHT is about ten times more potent than testosterone and thus in theory, it causes cell proliferation and cancer. (Testosterone is a growth promoting hormone.) There is only one problem with this theory; in real life, it doesn't make sense.

First, DHT, the allegedly bad testosterone, appears in highest levels in young adults, which have the lowest rates of prostate problems. Second, the older men get, the lower their level of testosterone and DHT are, but yet the higher the rates of prostate problems among them are. Again, it doesn't make sense. If DHT is the main cause for prostate enlargement or cancer, why the majority of people who suffer from prostate problems are those who have lower levels of testosterone and DHT?

DHT can't penetrate the prostate gland.
Only free testosterone does.
In the prostate, free testosterone converts into DHT.

Drugs such as Flomax and DHT inhibitors vs. a natural treatment

Common treatments for prostate enlargement involve the use of drugs such as Flomax and DHT inhibitors. Nonetheless,
DHT suppressive drugs or herbs often come with a price - a loss of virility. And if this isn't enough, in spite of all medica-
tions and treatments, prostate enlargement related problems are still at an all time high. Drugs treat symptoms, not the
core of the problem. In fact, all drugs have a damaging effect on the liver. Thus, over time the body's defenses get lower
while the drug doses get higher and so on and so forth.

The real cause

There is growing evidence that the real cause for prostate enlargement is the female hormone estrogen. Estrogen is
naturally produced by the male body, but in smaller amounts than in women. Under normal conditions, estrogen is vital
to the male body, however when in excess (over other hormones such as progesterone and testosterone), estrogen
causes severe side effects including fat gain, feminization and prostate enlargement. Unbalanced estrogen has been
implicated in prostate growth, potentially leading to BPH and even cancer.

Two major reasons for increased levels of estrogen in men:

  • As men age, testosterone levels fall while estrogen levels rise.
Aging involves increased conversion of testosterone to estrogen in a process
    called aromatizing.
  • Men suffer from elevated estrogen levels due to exposure to estrogenic
substances in the environment, food and water. Estrogenic chemicals
(xenoestrogens) are estrogen-like compounds that have shown to affect
the body like the hormone estrogen. These estrogen mimickers are abundantly
found in many industrial products including pesticides, plastic products, solvents,
adhesives, car exhaust, industrial waste (PCBs) and food sources like
conversional meat and dairy, which are derived from estrogen drug treated
livestock. On the top of industrial estrogens there are also natural estrogenic
substances called phytoestrogens, notable among them are those found
    in soy products.

The most common estrogen promoting foods today include conventional meat, conventional dairy, lard, vegetable oils (excluding olive, nut and seed oils), soy products and overly processed, chemically loaded diet products. The combination of industrial and natural estrogens have a double whammy effect on the body, impairing men's reproductive functions, causing disorders and disease including prostate enlargement and potentially cancer.

The Real Solution

The solution for prostate enlargement requires the means to counteract any excess of estrogenic substances in the body. To do that, one needs to follow a special nutritional plan. The premise of the plan is to increase the intake of anti-estrogenic foods and herbs, while eliminating all estrogen promoting substances from the diet.

The Nutritional Plan

The plan's mission is to counteract the adverse effects of estrogen in the body, while establishing the right metabolic environment to utilize energy, reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, stabilize blood sugar, lower blood lipids and potentially inhibit the enlargement of the prostate and the formation of cancer cells. The end result should be the regaining of normal body functioning with a great sense of well being.

Again, the most important element in fighting prostate enlargement is the incorporation of an anti-estrogenic approach. The premise of this approach is to increase the intake of anti-estrogenic foods and herbs while avoiding estrogenic promoting foods and chemicals.

Anti-estrogenic foods and herbs

Certain compounds in foods and herbs have shown to work as estrogen inhibitors, counteracting estrogen's adverse effects on the body. When combined together properly, estrogen inhibiting foods and herbs were found to have a superior inhibition power with potentially a more potent anti-estrogenic effect on the body, compared to each of the components alone.

All anti-estrogenic foods are available in conventional supermarkets and groceries. Not the same is the case with estrogen inhibiting herbs. Some of the most critical estrogen inhibiting herbs aren't easily accessible, thus they're virtually missing in our diet and must be supplemented.
