Howdy! :-)

I promise I've read every single forum post about this and I understand that fruit and nuts shouldn't be combined. But.......lol!!....

If I am going to subscribe to the "60 minute window" for the daily large meal....and if I want to limit my carbs to just fruit and veggies (sorta' the "Paleo diet" mixed in....making it a Paleolithic Warrior Diet...sounds FIERCE!!).....and if I want to maintain fat intake via nuts.....then I'm gonna' have to eat nuts and fruit at the same meal.

Speaking of "combining"....I'd like to combine the fruit and nut question with another semi-related question. I read that protein is much better digested on an empty stomach (not even water first). So....to combine the questions....here goes...

For the single large meal (60-minute window to eat it....all of it in an hour, then fast until next day's 60-minute window).....if I am going to eat:
  • a ton of protein
    a ton of cooked veggies
    a few raw salad veggies
    a half ton of nuts
    a ton of fruit

...in what order should I consume those to best take advantage of food combining principles....given the 60 minute total face stuffing eating period?

Here's an update from my first three days of Warrior-hood.

Day one I ate salad first , then veggies, then meat, then sweets (sugar and fat).

Day two I ate meat first, then veggies, then salad, then nuts, then fruit.

Day three I ate meat first, then veggies, then more meat, then more veggies, then seeds.

Not enough data to make long term conclusions for sure....but I think eating meat first takes the edge off of the previous fasting period better than eating salad first. This seems counterintuitive to some degree.....but that's what I've found so far.

What's your experience? Same or different?

maine, I think you should return to eating a conventional diet of breakfast, lunch and dinner with good wholesome food and try the warrior diet again once you have a decent health base.

Hey my Maine man.....lol!!

So far, I've not eaten anything outside of the 4 hour window....i.e. nothing until the next day's 4 hour window starts. I notice about 3 "tough times" during the fasting period....but they only seem to last about 20 minutes and haven't been severe enough for me to break the fast early. That said, I've only been a "Warrior" for less than a week...too little time to draw conclusions.

Hey Maine...I'm 145 pounds, 5'10", 37 yrs, 8% (or so) body fat.

Well...that was before the buffet I went to tonight. I started with a medium plate full of asparagus and cucumber....just a warm up...lol!!!....and then embarked on a seafood fest....a TON of salmon (from raw / sashimi style, to smoked, to grilled, to baked), a TON of tuna, and about a half ton of lobster tails, mussels, and oysters. As my only other source of carbs...I finished off  with....well, TWO TONS of fruit (out of proper "food combining" order? Will my insides blow up?)....including prunes, apples, mango, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, figs, canteloupe, and papaya.

Sadly...two hours later (back at home) I polished off another 900 calories of fruit....which is darn hard to do!! It was the whole box of pitted prunes and two bananas that made up most of that.

The final fruit overload was a damn rookie mistake. I know better. I think I was just sorta' dehydrated....but instead of just drinking some water (or maybe adding a bit of whey powder to it if there really was an "edge" of hunger there)....I stuffed my face full of more fruit. Damn.......ROOKIE MISTAKE!!

Total calories.....dunno'.....but I'd guess 4,500 or so.

As you can see, tonight's one meal (plus secondary fruit filling) was not entirely "low fat"....but the only fat was from the Salmon. Do you think something like an "all nut and whey" meal tomorrow would be a good offset? That would give my body 48 hours before the next carb meal (might be good since tonight's double dosing of fruit was mainly simple sugars, right?).

Whadda' ya' think?

I should probably add a weeeee bit of context to that last post. The Seafood / Fruit frenzy (about 5k calories) was the end of a four day cycle. The first three days I consumed only 1600 calories per day (one meal each day)......then the fourth day (tonight's meal) I did the buffet thing. I'm going to try this again for another cycle....although I may make it a 3 day cycle....(2 days of 1500 calories...third day as a buffet with hopefully a little more control so it would be down to about 3,500 calories).

Sound good?

live_happy, I would tell you to keep away from the fruit at dinner. Keep your carb source from beans, lentels, grains, & potatoes. Just eat fruit sparingly during the day. I can't believe that you didn't crap your insides out from all that fruit!

Hey CFTElite...thank you for the reply and the smile I got from your wonderment about me not crapping my guts out....lol!!

Due to a Thyroid issue and being very sensitive to some goitrogenic veggies.....and also due to trying the Paleo diet's food list.....I'm not able to do much on the carb side except for a few veggies, a lot of roughage, pumpkin & beets (I seem to tolerate these well), the carbs in nuts, and....well.....fruit.

The past two days since I eliminated the goitrogenic veggies (Broccoli and Kale had been MAAAAAAJOR staples of my diet).....I'm feeling better throughout the following day. WOOHOO!! But rather than dabble in a much higher fat day (nuts and seeds)...I stuck with carbs for energy two days in a row (today being the second) and opted for lots of fruit.....with protein from Whey protein to give myself a break from yesterday's seafood fest.

I'm going to try this one more day (tomorrow)....fruit loads....but will go back to salmon and mackerel for protein tomorrow.....and then back to Whey protein and fruit the next day.....which will complete a 3-day / 1,600 calories per day cycle.....after which I'll hit a buffet for about 3,500 calories to start a new cycle of one day feast / 3 days low cal. This next "feast" will be land based meats (good idea?) instead of seafood just to continue with the cycling theme. As I posted before....if 3 days of 1,600 calories per day between the buffet feasts is too long a gap.....I may accelerate it to a 3 day cycle.....buffet feast and then just two 1,600 calorie days in between.

Sorry for the longish post.....

....if you're still with me......what do you think of the plan?

I like the cycling aspect of your plan and your protein / other food choices (carbs from fruit/veggies) are very healthy choices.  Rock on and let us know how it goes.  Keep up some good workouts 3x per week also.  If the "buffet" makes you feel terrible, just don't do it again...but I like the idea of under/overeating days.

I'm heading off to bed now.....2am where I am at the moment (traveling in Asia). Here is the list of what I ate today....all within a 4 hour window....19 hours after last food from the "5k calorie fish / protein / fruit" feast.

Note...the protein total today was (intentionally) very low....just trying this out as part of a cycle. Tomorrow will be much higher in protein (from Salmon and Mackerel)....with fruit for energy....then either a buffet day or one more very low protein / high fruit day first. Not sure yet.

For each line item.....the number of grams (weighed on my kitchen scale) are included.

Whadda' ya' think?

Whey protein isolate protein powder   20
pink grapefruit 500
guava   460
persimmon   370
red grapes   250
jujube fruit   200
seaweed   7
pumpkin   200
beetroot   200
garlic   5
almond butter   15
sesame   7
flax seed   7
raw pumpkin seed (directly out of the pumpkin)   12
cucumber 200
lettuce 70
bitter gourd 70

Total calories....almost exactly 1,600
