Cheating, ugh
«
on:

I went out to dinner with my husband on Saturday, and stuck easily to the plan except that I drank half a diet soda. I watered it down a lot but it didn't help. That night I was hit with acid reflux and ended up losing everyithing I had eaten. The next day I had diarrhea and felt awful all day. Maybe that's the value of screwing up once in awhile; it reminds us not to do something stupid the next time! I know I'll never touch the stuff again. It was a good, but painful reminder of why I stopped drinking the stuff.

That's a good point. It's interesting how your body responds once you detox and clean things up inside. It'll tell you pretty quick what not to eat.

Mippy I feel for you.
Acid reflux is horrible...Detox time
Detox has had a strange effect on me as well.
I decided to take a bite of the roasted chicken tonight I got for my family. I put a piece in my mouth and chewed it up half way and realized that it tasted horrible so I spit it out immediately. It was like chemicals and saw dust in my mouth. It was so gross...and it was a "clean" roasted chicken from Whole Foods.
I remember when I was pregnant my body refused to let me eat chicken, it really stunk to me. I wonder if chicken is NOT a good choice for me and my body is trying to tell me something?
I agree Mippy sometimes we need to have our "course readjusted" but it is never a fun experience...

Kel, I have been doing a ton of detox lately, because my husband brought me an early birthday present - a virus! He works in retail so I get to experience every new one there is. I had the stomach variety, where you can't eat anything without it coming back up, so I spent nearly the last five days sipping water and watery juices, since nothing else would stay down. Yesterday was the first day I could eat anything. Fruit and vegetables have never tasted so good. After my diet soda cheat last week, and being sick this week, it made it really easy to decide not to cheat on the birthday and holidays. Negative experiences are no fun, but sometimes Ie learn the most from them. Not being able to eat for those dour and a half days taught me a lot so that when I did eat again, I found a better way to flip flop the eating. Fruit before noon makes me feel really crappy, so i have been breakfasting on salad and raw veggies. I save fruit for noon or a snack. More energy that way too. That's what works for me, so I appreciate the flexibility of the plan, more than ever now. Also am loving the support and friends I am making here.

Acid reflux is caused by the food not digesting properly. It rots and forms lactic acid which refluxes back up. Your case may have been caused by the soda. If it's a chronic problem, the cure is either a raw food diet or HCl supplementation.

I can almost guarentee all of us that eating store-bought or vending machine pastries will put us in the 'loo' and we'll be seriously debating calling 911.
"This is 911, what is the nature of your call?"
"I think I've poisoned myself. I think I'm experiencing death by Twinkies. Please send help. AAAAHHHHRRRRGGGGG!!!!"
There's something truly evil about the fats those products are concocted from. "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble."
But here's a good side effect from following this 'diet'; I've always heard that 'you will lose your cravings' and of course I've thought, "Yeah, and I'm gonna die someday too." But get this!! I'm very impatiently waiting for my book to arrive (I'm going to hijack the mailtruck tomorrow..watch the 5 o'clock news, if it doesn't come) so I haven't 'officially' started yet....but I've been cutting things out and rearranging what I eat when....last night I had a bowl of spinich and ricotta tortalinis with organically canned, diced tomatoes and about a half a Tbl. of minced garlic for dinner with two squares of 70% chocolate for dessert. Now I know that's not in the first 4 weeks of the diet but with only the few adjustments that I have made so far, I was very surprized to notice that when 9:30, 10:00 rolled around, I was not back in the kitchen grazing after something sweet or salty. There was no desire to put anything else into me and I was downright surprized!!
I was shopping, stocking up and getting ready so I was reading the lables of frozen halibut. Alot of it comes from China and after all the recalls of things lately, I started to wonder if I really wanted to eat anything from there. I found halibut from Norway so I'm ready for week 3 & beyond. Getting protein from grains and beans should be easy....just think of meatless, chemical-free chili. Has anyone else 'discovered' quinoa yet?

Interesting about the crazing. I've actually been annoyed that Im having cravings that I havent had for years! I was going past a McDonalds the other day, which I haven't eaten in over 3 years, and I started salivating. YUCK!
I gave up meat this summer though. MY husband jokes that for me, giving up meat was like breaking up with my boyfriend because I loved it so much, but I still have to see it hanging out with my friends. So maybe it is the meat giving me the cravings more than the diet, and the change of diet is just perking it up a bit. Still, YUCK!
