What do you do for your fitness? Everybody should do at least one thing for their health concerned. I do regular exercises for my health and fitness. Yoga is another kind. So what do you practice?

Yoga is definitely a form of exercise. It won't build hypertrophy like weight training; however it is an active form of exercise.

Yoga is a combination of stretching + meditation exercises. That is supposedly beneficial on both a physical & spiritual level. So yoga is the best option for everyone.

Gotta cheer for my own team. Wink

Weight training has a tremendous amount to offer, it often includes stretching aswell. I agree with fawny, depends on your nature but if i had to logically compare the two (assuming exercise refers to weight bearing exercises) Exercise would win hands down.

Yoga builds discipline and can be hard and can improve posture but it won't make you as strong or resilient as an athlete. Spirituality is a very individual thing too, personally i don't like the word or it's associations with certain activities or groups and not with others. I think i would describe it as strength of character or personal development, any activity can potentially be spiritual.

TO conclude, weight bearing exercises can do everything yoga can do and more due to the increased external resistance.

I think if you say something can be proved you should attach something that indicates this.

Yoga against exercise is really an unfair comparison because exercise includes many things, lol including yoga.

Variety is the key, methods have strong points and weak points. however yoga is a bit of an all-in-one whereas different forms of exercise would represent specialising although they do transfer to improvement in other areas too.

You can not build the strength with yoga that you could with strength training. There was a form once called sanchin kata which is simila rto yoga, in that it is weightless but due to that fact, it is still inferior to strength training. The ability to add more resistance makes weight training more effective. A powerlifter and a yoga instructor play tug of war.... what's gonna happen?

Compare a sprinter to a yoga instructor, that wouldn't even be comparable

Yoga can even be beat on flexibility by today's methods - Yoga in fact contributed to these methods.

Yoga is normally very passive compared to other sports, the lack of stress means smaller adaptations, which means less measurable improvement .

I don't dislike yoga and i know that people who like yoga won't want to hear it but it's just not as effective for people that want visible differences in muscle size and fat loss, changes in CV fitness, strength, endurance.

We've come a long way in exercise science and yoga has it's place but it is just a piece of a big puzzle that is exercise science lol But why choose?

Hello all,

Yoga and exercise both are greatly beneficial for health. And yoga is also a part of exercise. For yoga proper time and technique is must if you really want to get benefits of yoga.

Yoga is another type of exercise and we can do it for fitness. With yoga we can do other exercises like walk, running and jogging. Every exercise is good so i prefer yoga and also some other exercises. I suggest everyone to do both exercises.
