Hi all,

It's been a month for my wife and I on the AED and we feel great - I've lost 8 pounds and dropped 2" off my waist; my wife lost 10#'s, which has been great for someone who recently had her third child and had "plateaued" in weight loss. Significantly for me has been noticing how many foods cause a reaction in my body, especially allergies and bloating. We ended up doing two weeks of detox rather than one just because of how good we were feeling.

Our question is something we have batted back and forth on. My wife likes to eat bananas and peanut butter (both organic) as a bedtime snack. On one hand, these are natural foods, and my wife wants something so she won't feel deprived. On the other hand, bananas are high glycemic and nuts I thought were really only to be part of the main large evening meal or in extreme cases a source of energy for athletes etc during the day. So we've been debating on "why" combining carbs (in this case, bananas) and fats (nuts) would be a bad thing. We've talked about "each person is different" and "eat according to your goals" etc.

Thanks

I think sometimes the combination of the two can be problematic for some people, especially those trying to shed off excess fat.  If the two of you have properly detoxed and gotten your bodies in good shape (which it sounds like you have), I don't think that eating bananas with some peanut butter will cause any harm.  As always, see how it works for you.  Personally, I eat bananas with almond butter spread on them during the day - it works fantastic for me and doesn't slow me down, but is very satiating.

Ori and I were discussing the other day how many people get so obsessed over following things to the absolute letter, when they've already been following the diet closely for several months or even years.  Interestingly enough, and these were Ori's words, when you detoxify and cleanse your body regularly, while sticking to the bottom of the food chain, the combos of foods aren't going to so adversely affect you, as your body will be working optimally at that point.  Many of Ori's suggestions in his books about food combinations are from research he's done and found to be a pretty general rule, across the board with most dieters.  For those of us who are healthy and in great shape, they're not quite as much of a mandate.  I don't mean we just start eating whatever we want, just simply that we've set our bodies up to function well.  I hope I'm making sense.
