I was reviewing the WD book and Ori lists legumes such as black beans as a protein source but it seems a lot of posts I have read regard legumes as a carb source. I tend to mix black beans with quinoa on a high carb day since they seem to work well for me but can I incorporate legumes into a high fat day or a high protein day? I love just having a big salad with cabbage, spinach, feta, radishes, avacado, EVOO and fresh lemon juice and then follow it up with a big bowl of cuban style black beans. But what would this meal be considered?

Thanks in advance....!

er, eh,  im thinking it would depend on your individual program.  how low carb do you want your low carb day?

if you're shooting for 100ish carbs a day, a cup of black beans and some veggies w/ your protein and cuciferous veggie would be in that range.  if you're shooting for a very low carb day of 5oish, you can get that many carbs in only one cup of black beans.

its not so much being distinctly protein or carb, but where that number of carbs fits in your goals for that particular day.   even if im going for a very low carb night (5oish) i could go for a half cup of beans in my salad, provided i limit the rest of my window to non carb eating.

of course this all depends on if youre counting macros. i just starting doing general gustimates after months and months of eating the same meals cycled throughout the week. made it easy to calculate. if i werent counting a bit, i would limit beans to carb ups, so you can relax and not worry about exceeding your limit.       anyone?

Beans are both and could be consumed for whatever meal.

The distinction is between high-carb and high-fat days, not high-protein days. Carbs or fats are your fuels, not protein. I would have the beans on a carb day, they work well if you're doing AED Phase 1. There's just too much carbohydrate in beans for a high-fat day, unless you are limiting vegetables on that day.
