Clean WD and "Dirty" WD
«
on:

Ok guys and gals, I was wondering today how many of us follow the "clean" WD, by clean I mean by the book, no garbage only healthy fare. And how many follow the "dirty" WD, by dirty I mean you toss BBQ sauce on your chicken or steak, a little ketchup on your mac n cheese, that kind of stuff. I know the dirty diet goes against the whole detox and such, but I am sure some follow the WD for the simplicity of not having to eat during the day.

i still love hot sauce and pecante sauce, and braggs amino acids which is a sort of replacement for soy sauce even though it is soy based.
on my high carb days i may still have a few corn chips, tacos, even a chinese stirfry with fried rice and egg roll. this is a far far cry from my pre wd days where i ate some form of rice, potato, pasta , pastry with just about every meal, and sometimes between meals. i had a true carb based diet.
my predominate high fat days like last night are pretty clean. last night i had a raw salad w/olive oil based dressing, pumpkin kernals, olives. i ate three chicken thighs /turmeric, a fab cabbage stirfry w/ coconut oil, curry, garlic and minced onions, to wrap it up i drink my low carb "chocolate milk" of over fermented kefir w/stevia, cocoa, and ice. the kefir grains eat up the lactose and convert it to lactase which makes it much more healthy than milk.
the top off was a couple tb natural almond butter w/ local honey. mmmm yummy.
compared to my old days i eat about 80% clean, 20% dirty, but then there are so many who would disagree since i dont eat much organic foods, my kefir is made from organic milk but its not raw, my cheeses are raw but i drink coffee each morning.
there is so much wonderful diversity here in how to gauge ones diet. thanks to the firm concepts i read on the forum, i do find myself eliminating more and more dirty foods as i go. i tend to process an idea, then slowly work on implementing it. cold turkey is too much for me.

on an everyday basis, I stick to a clean WD. Every now and then I'll have a cheat day where I go a little more lax to help my sanity though : ) Those days will be along the lines of homemade pizza or eat what the family is having.

Hey Clake, I like your comment about what the family is eating. The inlaws love their BBQ and BBQ sauce to, last year they looked at me wierd and asked questions when I said no bbq sauce. My wife combines carbs and fats together in meals and she loves to bbq too so that means sauce again. I hope you get my point, that when you eat elsewhere and cant prep things yourself (I usually can as I dont eat with the family during the week due to my work schedule) it can be pretty tough to know really what your eating and how much too. I think I am alot like Rachel as I eat clean but indulge also (mind you I usually feel it afterward, and have found if I eat junk then its almost impossible to sleep that night, its weird) I am getting to the point where I am not going to fret over what I eat as long as its pretty clean, lifes too short not to enjoy cheesecake.

I think we're all on the same page. We just have to be cognizant that the "Cheats" will hinder progress, but as long as they're far and few between, we can easily recover. It's just a matter of how much you can stand really.

don't eat everything organic, like dark chocolate and coffee alot (btw i got some coffee that is sooooo good ahah) apart from that i do okay.
i think that progress over a lifetime has to be comfortable enough to keep up, so i think disallowing foods can take away from satiety as ori suggested. i don't eat sweets and cakes cause, well i'm lucky enough to be one of those people who doesn't really like sweet foods lol.
but bitter foods, coffee and chocolate ... ehehe, maybe too many.
and 'life's too short not to enjoy cheesecake' ahaha brilliant

So are you guys really picky about finding/getting the whole organic, grass fed super protein, or do you use one that tastes good and does the trick? I personally havent found any differance between them while using them and might just switch back to using a less expensive brand. As a side note, and I know I am going to take major flak for this, the best I ever looked, felt and performed was when I was using Muscle Milk by Cytosport. I was using it when I trained for my professional MMA fight. My diet was pretty clean until I started to drop weight to fast (I was eating the standard 5-7 meals aday of fruit, veggies, yougort, and or nuts for snacks, sandwhiches for lunch, big supper of pasta and meat, breakfast was always oatmeal and MM, MM post workout, and oats and MM before bed), but I was well on my way to being ripped and strong as hell (I honestly think I felt better and looked better back then). Sometimes I look back at the pics and think I should go back to that way, but I just love the conveniance of the WD, and not needing a big lunch cooler. Oh I forgot to mention when my weight dropped off so fast, I was eating pizza and chicken wings on the weekends to try and bring it up.

I try to go as much organic/grass fed etc as possible. I was 100%, but I quit my job to start my own business, so I'm a mix of conventional/organic at the moment. Once I get things going and can afford it, I'll be 100% organic again. Most of the benefits that they give I don't think you will ever feel. You just have the benefit of less risk of disease and things like that. Also, taste is pretty much 100% the same in all honesty.

Put me down for "dirty WD".
I'll be honest. I eat fairly clean, but for me to remain sane, I can't get all OCD about the food. The reason I am switching over to WD from 6-7 small meals high in protein a day is that I am tired of being OCD about the food. That doesn't mean I don't eat high quality foods..it means I don't obsess over it...dinner tonight was baked pasta using Barilla Plus Rotini, Organic tomato sauce, Natural Ground Bison Meat, part Skim (non-organic) Ricotta, and non-organic italian cheese blend...accompanied by a few slices of organic rosemary and olive oil Italian bread.
Breakfast was a cup of wild blueberries with 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt
snack 1 was a half a hemp/flax/pumpkin seed/honey bar and a small Gala apple
Snack 2 was a couple cups of raw spinach with a teaspoon of Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar
was it perfect? no....but way better than most people eat..and I didn't think about food all day..worry about my meals...wasn't sluggish...no sugar spikes...so, to me it was successful

...oh, and 6oz of plain kefir that I made with organic skim milk about two hours after I ate dinner...a night cap so to speak (since I don't drink)

So far managed to keep it mostly clean with most of my dirty coming from incorrect food choices (the olive oil ordeal!!)
This weekend was a bit dirty cause, although my dads fiance tried to help me out, she made me sausages (full of god knows what preservatives) and she made me breakfast (i dont eat it usually).
Doing good though.
Had a strange acci-dirty on carb night, sulphur dioxide is used a preservative in raisins . . . i thought i was buying raisins....

Dirty and I'm not sure I want to know how dirty. You see, I'm in Iraq about to finish my tour in several months and trying to eat on the WD is a bit tough because the mess hall is a bit out of the way. I'm thankful where I am because several months before that, I was stuck in an isolated outpost in the middle of nowhere and the food was fatty eggs in the morning and greasy stuff during the evening.
It is a bit tough to eat the same things because there are only a few things. No nuts, no beans, just lettuce, bell peppers, carrots, cucumbers, horseradsh and sauerkraut. The meats are alright but I really want to get back home so I can start eating healthy.

You mean to tell me no one eats a fast breaking tub of frosting nightly?
Where all the exceptions to our rule?

Real dirty last night. birthday party, so, 3-4 hamburgers, 1 hotdog, 2 servings of cake and ice cream (both flavours), and dont forget the chips and dip, and punch. oh well. if you eat clean during the week, workout like a madman, have kids (thats a workout in it self), when life throws you yummy food eat it, just not all the time.

Even then Hunter, I doubt it added up to more than 3,000 calories. I'm talking like, someone who comes home from their desk job and slams a cheesecake, a jar of nutella with some peanut butter, ben and jerrys, and then finishes with milkshakes. There's gotta be someone out there.
