I am looking at getting kettle balls. Can you get a good workout with just a single or should I buy a set?

You only need one for a great workout to start. After you get the hang of them, you will need a heavier one. Check out www.dragondoor.com.

First, they are kettle bells, not balls Smiley
Second, you can get a fantastic workout with just one.  Swings, snatches, cleans, jerks, squats, presses, figure 8's, windmills...the list goes on and on with what you can do with just one.
You will proably need different sizes eventually, once you get your form down.  In a typical workout, I may use 3 or more different weights.  Just depends on the day.

Hope this helps and hope you find what you're looking for.  Dragondoor is a good site, lots of information there, but I'm partial to the comptetition bells from the AKC.  They are a little more expensive, but I like the uniformity of the sizes.  Both styles do the job as long as you get off the couch to use them.

Best of luck,
Kim

i second alwaysbelieve1, the competition bells are the best you can get, all my others bells are just used for heavy pull ups and dips, wouldn't do any kb specific exercises with them anymore. it's like bob said, if you ever get the chance to train with a competition bell you don't want to go back to other bells ;-)

as the others suggested, you can get a great workout with one bell but two bells give you a lot of other options. moreover doing longcycle c&j with two kbs is a whole other world than doing it with just one. so, if you have the money, get two bells!

good luck

You're not joking about doubles being a whole different world!!!  That completely rocks me when we do doubles.  We've mostly been focusing on times.  Have had a few good ones lately.  You can find them on my husbands blog http://spartanicaspirations.blogspot.com/

That's the most recent stuff.  Trying to decide if we're going to the Arnold Classic as spectators, or competitors.

Best to all,
Kim

i'd reccommend you the dvd set "boys are back in town". it's a recorded workshop done by mike mahler, steve cotter, steve maxwell and nate morisson and it covers the competition lifts, lifts for strength, joint mobility, hormonal balance and much more.
