Weeks 43-45:
Hectic, hectic, hectic!!! I've been so busy since the middle of last month, I just haven't had time to sit down and write on here. I hope everyone's still doing fine. Things have been up and down with my diet recently, what with travelling to the UK and trying to find a happy medium between fats and carbs. I have to say that I'm now pretty far away from the Warrior Diet per se, but am still addicted to intermittent fasting and think that I'll always be practicing it in one way or another.
Just over a week ago, I bought a copy of Brad Pilon's e-book "Eat-Stop-Eat", as it was on special offer through the Strong Lifts website, and I'd thought about buying it in the past. Basically, I've been following it since I got it, having two 24 hour water fasts per week, the rest of the time eating pretty much in accordance with the Warrior Diet food recommendations, but throughout the day instead of in one sitting. That's the great thing about Eat-Stop-Eat, you can follow whatever type of diet you chose, as long as you fast for 24 hours once or twice a week (you can chose whenever you want). I've kept my intake of starchy carbs to just once per day (post-workout/lunchtime), the rest of the time sticking to fats, protein and fibrous veggies. It looks a little like this:
Monday/Tuesday:
Breakfast: 1 grapefruit, 5 eggs (usually in an omelet with some cheese and veggies)
Post-workout shake: 25g oats, 25g whey concentrate, 500ml whole milk
Lunch: chicken, vegetables, rice
Snack: 250g yoghurt, 25g almonds, piece of fruit
Dinner: 1 avocado, salmon, salad, extra virgin olive oil
Snack: 250g yoghurt, perilla oil, maybe a small piece of fruit
Wednesday:
Form breakfast to lunch as above, then water fast until lunchtime the next day (maybe a cup or two of black coffee during the 24 hours).
Thursday:
Start eating again at lunch time, then continue as for a regular day.
Friday:
As Monday/Tuesday.
Saturday:
As Wednesday.
Sunday:
As Thursday.
Okay, I know I'm eating nuts and rice on the same day, but it doesn't seem to be causing any negative effects. I'll see how things go and no doubt make some changes along the way. All I can say is that this way of getting a good amount of calories during the day whilst still fasting twice a week seems to be working better for me than my last few weeks of eating just once per day. My energy levels are good, and my mental health is still getting better and better (I'm sure that that's most likely due to my continuing use of the Holosynch Program).
All that's left to do now is get ready for my trip to Hungary this week for the RKC instructors certification. Once that's all over with, maybe I can take a long overdue rest!

Just wanted to comment on the Eat Stop Eat thing. I think that it is an excellent idea to incorporate ESE with the warrior diet. Simply because with TWD it is easy to eat maintenance calories everyday and not even realize it. This is what I have been finding..my weight and look of my body stays the same doing warrior because the body has a set point that it likes to maintain. Therefore..even if I think I am eating below maintenance I don't think I am because I do not see any changes or drop in the scale or measurements. I am doing my first ESE fast from yesterday at 6 until today at 6 then I plan to eat a tiny supper and proceed with the WD for the rest of the week until my second fast on Friday. It's an awesome way to get that calorie deficit in and still enjoy your big warrior meal the rest of the days! I thought about doing Brad's ESE and then eating a normal 3 meal/day but I just cannot stomach going back to eating during the day. The thought of cooking, being full, thinking about food and having to worry about portions is HORRID! ESE or not portions do matter. I did ESE in the past and found that on my non fasting days the mental stress of eating and calories is still there. And I still overate at night along with my daytime meals which defeated the whole purpose of the fasts. It's warrior diet and ESE for me!!

Week 50
It's official, I am now an
RKC certified instructor
!!!!
Only 19 of us out of 55 candidates passed, so to say it was tough is putting it lightly. If you're thinking about doing it, make sure you're very, very well prepared. Two people were hospitalised during the 3 days!
Made some great friends, and amongst the sweat and pain, had some great laughs. Now it's time to rest.

Thanks ChenZhen,
The time was the same for everyone, 5 minutes. On the first day, I was so jet-lagged and tired I messed up the snatch test, trying to bang out as many reps as possible in the 5 minutes. At home during practice my best result was 107 reps, which I was determined to beat. However, I lost control of the bell in the lockout after around 65 reps, and the test was disqualified. I wasn't too bothered, as I knew I could take it again the next day. I decided to take it easy and just stick to the required number of reps. We were lucky, we only had to do as many as our bodyweight in kilograms, so for me that was a relatively easy 72. I went at a leisurely pace and stopped after the 72nd rep. No point risking doing more reps and then getting disqualified again!
To be honest, that was the easy part of the course. The rest of the three days had us screaming like wild men (and women) as we tried to keep up with the gruelling workouts.
I had some good conversations with the instructors, including Pavel, which I'll write about this weekend if I get the time.

Week 51-52
Well, no surprises that the last couple of weeks have been very busy. On top of work, I've been trying to get a lot of RKC stuff sorted out, such as business cards, advertisments, a web page, order new kettlebells, etc., so not much free time at all. Still things are going well, and hopefully everything will start to fall into place soon.
Also, it's a
whole year
since I started this blog!
I'm really gald that I kept it going, even when things weren't working out. In fact, looking back to my very first post in February 2008, before I even started the blog, I can see that where I am today is almost exactly where I was right at the beginning!
http://www.defensenutrition.com/forum/index.php/topic,728.msg3960.html#msg3960v
And I don't think that's a bad thing. It just shows that I was eating healthily before I even got into the Warrior Diet.
I'm currently eating when I get hungry (during the day and at night) 5 days a week, with two 24 hour water fasts per week, AKA: Eat Stop Eat, as I mentioned before. My food choices are mostly Warrior Diet (maybe not as much organic as I'd like), and I've actually seen a drop in body fat over the last few weeks.
I mentioned in my last mail that I'd had the chance to talk with Pavel over breakfast one day during the RKC cert the other week (yes, that's right, breakfast). It just happened that we were the first two up and early in the canteen that morning (actually, I was up early as I had to re-take my snatch test!). It was great to just chat about a lot of stuff I'd learnt from his books, and he seemed genuinely interested to see how I'd applied his powerlifting training techniques to my climbing and pull-up training in the past with great results. Of course, we got onto the subject of nutrition and the Warrior Diet, and he told me that he's been practicing it for 90% of the time for the past 5 years. I told him why I'd eventually moved away from following it strictly (i.e. gradually becoming too rigid in what I was eating), and he said that he eats whatever he wants, just within the Warrior Diet time frame of 20 hours undereating, 4 hours overeating. No special attention to nutrient ratios or carb days or fat days, he just enjoys what he eats when it's time to eat.
That was definately my downfall. Being overly strict isn't any good if it means you can't keep on doing what you want to do. I'm happy doing what I'm doing at the moment, but If I get back on the Warrior Diet it will definately be a lot less strict next time.
So for now, I'm going to be logging off for a while, at least until my workload has gone down a bit. Once the kettlebell website's up and running, I'll probably post a link on here. Thanks to all who checked in to read this blog over the last year. I hope it was useful.

Wow, it's been a LOOOONG time since I lat checked in on here. It looks like most of the old faces haven't logged on here in a long time, and I'm amazed to find my blog still in the top 5 after all this time!
I'm still pretty much doing the Eat Stop Eat thing, trying to keep my food choices as clean as possible and close to the Warrior Diet way. Next month I plan to sign up for Mike Mahler's training and nutrition program, I know he's a big fan and personal friend of Ori, so I think he's the man for the job.
In the meantime, here's my kettlebell blog address:

Bye for now
