I love Indian food, and there are several vegetarian Indian restaurants here in the Cities.  One of my favorite foods is an idli or two.  I made them years ago but lost the recipe.   You soak lentils and rice separately and then grind it in a blender and let the batter ferment.   To make idlis you steam the batter, but dosas are runnier and fried like pancakes; they are also spiced or plain, your choice.   The original recipe was in the Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book, which fell apart after years of use.  I can't find the recipe in any of my Indian cookbooks.  Does anyone have a recipe? Huh

Hi Mippy,

I love Indian food as well and am very happy to be able to eat this way so these things can be incorporated again into my diet. I had eliminated much of them due to adhering to a low carb eating plan.

I vaguely recall a similar recipe, but made with soaked and ground sprouted mung beans. I have looked for the recipe for years as well and had no luck, but now you have inspired me to look again. In the mean time these recipes below for Idlis and dosas sound great. I am going to play around with the recipe and see if I can make something acceptable.

thanks!

Here are some websites I found for your recipes

Thank you so much for the links.   The first one had just what I wanted.  You would think that with a dozen Indian cookbook,s one of them would have had the recipe, but no!   I am especially pleased with having the recipe for this particular recipe since it incorporates both the lentils and rice in one dish, making it much tastier to me, than eating them separately.   I love Indian food for it's diversity, and you can make it spicy without making it hot, or as you can make it as hot as you like.   Many thanks again for your generosity and kindness in posting Cheesy
