KB, currently I use both Warrior Whey and Warrior Milk.

As a recovery meal, I use 1 serving of each product. Following a strenuous/intense workout, I may follow with another serving of Warrior Whey forty-five minutes to an hour later.

During the overeating phase, I will often have a serving of Warrior Milk (in pudding form) as a late-night snack.

Though not mentioned in the book, the products do fit the criteria mentioned regarding protein supplements.

Others may use the products differently. Hopefully, you find this example helpful.

Ok, so do you think that I should have the regular Whey while undereating and avoid the Warrior Milk on the days that I don't work out?  Most days I work out, but when I don't (like today) I feel like I should probably have protein during the undereating phase.

What do you think?

KB:

Initially, let me apologize for not answering sooner. Having described my use of both Warrior Milk and Warrior Whey in a previous post, I wasn't sure how to answer your inquiry. After some thought, I will give it a try.

Taking Warrior Milk during the undereating phase should not be a problem. Ori has listed it as an option in both E-books. If not following a workout, I would recommend water, rather than using milk and its sugars, as a base. On its own, Warrior Milk's relatively low amount of sugar should not invoke any unwanted insulin response. With even less sugar, Warrior Whey is also an option.

Personally, if not exercising, on days off I prefer to give my digestive system as much rest as possible. Though Warrior Milk or Warrior Whey shouldn't be too taxing, I don't use either supplement during the undereating phase of days off. In fact, I have recently begun to fast entirely (with the exception of recovery meals) during the undereating phase.

Since I believe the Warrior Diet is more of a lifestyle approach towards eating, rather than a typical 'diet' whereby one applies the principles, loses weight, then returns to old habits, I constantly experiment with its application. With regard to your 'feeling' regarding protein, I'd suggest following your instinct. The Warrior Diet should help develop instinctual eating patterns. However, I think you should also justify that 'feeling.' Though there are many possibilities, think about he following questions:

Are you not recovering between sessions?
Are you losing muscle mass and not fat?

If the answer(s) is (are) no, you probably don't need more protein during the undereating phase. Remember, feeling hungry (not starving) is part of the plan.

Egotistically, we may see ourselves as athletes who require significant amounts of each macro-nutrient. However, upon investigation and application, we find it is more of a thought or feeling rather than an actual 'need.' For example, observe how many posts refer to implementing pre-workout meals, a topic that is covered by Ori in The Warrior Diet. The book says, "endurance athletes and individuals engaged in prolonged drills can have a bowl of oatmeal or barley an hour before training." Later on, Ori reiterates a possible carbohydrate meal during the undereating phase, "for professional athletes and others who engage in intense, vigorous physical activities during the day and burn thousands of calories."

Currently, I train at least 5 days a week. Sometimes, two sessions in one day. These can amount to two or more hours of  exercise on any given day. However, at no point (except early on, with a much larger ego) would I consider myself a professional, or an endurance, athlete. Humility and honesty are two important attributes towards both diet and exercise. Applied correctly, they can make many decisions a lot easier.

Sorry for the rant, but I hope you find some of the information useful.

Yes good information.  I'm just not sure if I need both products.

Damn! I thought my answer was complete!

Of course, money is always an issue. In my opinion, you have to decide what you're going to use either supplement for. If you just want to add protein to your diet, Warrior Whey is a good choice.

Personally, I like Warrior Milk as a component of my recovery meal (along with Warrior Whey). You can call it laziness, but I really didn't want to measure, and create the ideal macro-nutrient ratio from Maximum Muscle Minimum Fat everyday. Experience, coupled with Ori's correspondence and Marty Gallagher's endorsement in The Purposeful Primitive made it an easy choice.

There are other alternatives. Though not necessarily an answer, I'd recommend trying several options and recording your results.
